It was a privilege to be taken on a tour of Gosport’s SETT (Submarine Escape Training Tower) on Monday (24th Jan 2022).
This training facility has, over its working life, had over 160,000 submariners from all over the world through its door. Here they learnt how to escape from a submarine at depth at the kind of pressures that deep water brings.
It’s all part of an Oral History project we’re working on called Submariners’ Stories, backed by the Gosport High Street HAZ (HSHAZ) .
Here’s a 360 photo taken at the top of the 100ft tank.
Many thanks to John Sghendo (right of the photo), who looks after the SETT, and Brian Wood (left), who trained many divers from Navies from all over the world, for taking the time to give us a detailed tour and share their stories.
